Advantages

WavePiston is a second-generation wave energy concept. The problems of existing wave energy devices were analyzed as a part of the development process. The advantages of this unique concept are:

Force cancellation

The cancellation of forces reduces the cost of mooring with a factor of 10. Further more the force cancelation enables a string design that requires very little material, but is strong, flexible and robust.

 

String design

Seen from an approaching wave a WavePiston string has a small projected area. This means that the impact of freak waves is limited.

Power production above water

With the current design the WavePiston system produce pressurized water at 7 - 15 bar. This enables power conversion above water with standard high efficiency turbines. Avoiding grid connection in the water makes the system cheaper and more robust.

Modular design

All the parts of a WavePiston system can be stored in a 40 ft. container thus making logistics and deployment a lot easier.
Production and system optimization is simpler faster and cheaper when a system consists of many small identical modules.
The WavePiston design consists of mostly of the shelf components.
 
Force cancellation is the key to making wave energy competitive.
